I love this hotel. Very nice people at the reception desk, gave us lots of useful advise. Hide in a narrow street besides a river, but has a beautiful thai-style decoration. There is a 7-11 across the street, easy to get drinks and other stuff.

Lamphu Tree was recommended by Lonely Planet as a midrange hotel but we found it to be an absolute oasis in the middle of the chaos that is Bangkok. We had a great experience there - staff was fantastic and incredibly helpful. The breakfast (which was included with the room) was excellent (when it was hot). When in Bangkok, its would be hard to beat this for overall value.

A peaceful gem with pool, a little hard to find.

by Judy from Melbourne, Australia

Nov 1, 2011

A quiet and peaceful hideaway jammed Thai-style between humble shops & dwellings. I chose it for the pool, which proved a small gem, and other good reviews. We had a mid-priced room - lovely. Although we asked for twin, not double, the twin rooms only had a flat wall view, so we took the double with view over the pool and across to other buildings and the morning light. The king bed made separate sleeping easy. Almost next door is a lovely bluesy bar, Rollin Bar with live singer - Spend some time there. Be very clear with directions to the taxi, as the hotel is hidden in a klong-side footpath, and the downloadable map could not be magnified. Proximity to that guilty pleasure-dome Khao San Rd is pretty good. Manager allowed us to use the room until an evening flight. Two happy customers.

Very clean. We stayed in the new building which is a five minute walk from the main building through a narrow alley. Other than this inconvenience, all else was good. Breakfast is excellent, the rooms are very clean. Located close to the main attractions in Bangkok.

I like everything about this hotel. The only problem was the location. Not in the city but all the taxi driver or the tuk-tuk didn't know this place...even with a map and the description of the hotel...We had to explain so many time to go at the good place!
The room was very good and we past a great time at the Lamphu Tree House.

Nice pool, lovely roof terrace & very friendly, helpful staff. The breakfast is good & the restaurant & bar are great. Nice mojitos. It's about 10 mins walk to Khao San so not great if you want to be right in amongst it but great if you want a nice wee oasis to escape to.

Taxi drive found the hotel easily, its on the canal so whilst he couldnt drop us at the door he pointed us in the right direction. Just go down the steps and walk down the canal, you cant miss its beautiful reception. Loved the rooftop view and the inclusive breakfast. Rooms were immaculate and well decorated. The best value hotel we will return.

I stayed in this hotel in nov when i started my travels around thailand, and thought it was fantastic value for money, was on a budget and this hotel was a great place to stay while on a bufget. the staff couldnt do enough to help at anytime of the day and night.
It was so good that i went back there once i was ready to leave thailand and head home.
The rooms was very clean and spaceus. The food was very nice, and althou i was late for breakfast most mornings, after nights out on Kho San Rd, they were still happy to feed me.

Kho San is only a 5 minute walk away and a TUK TUK is about 10 BHT is you barter with the drivers.
Would highly recommmed staying in this hotel if you are looking for central location and cheap but nice accom for when you first arrive in bangkok, there are places are cheaper on Kho San Rd, but not as nice as Lamphu, but no were near as nice.

I would stay there again if i return to Thailand in the bear future. Hope you enjoy your stay as much i did. Happy travelling.

just make sure you constantly re-apply insect repellant as you are right near the river. I got bitten very badly and don't normally. The hotel was great and the food was very good. Would go there again for sure, if I returned to Bangkok.

We were happy with the location and price. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant offered Thai and Western foods. Breakfast was very good! It has a nice pool and a unique rooftop with a bar. Definately would recommend it to friends.

Mar 13, 2009

We loved this hotel although it is a little hard to find. Even though we were arriving after midnight, the staff was ready and waiting. At first I was dismayed when they said that the room we had reserved was not available, but they immediately followed that we had been upgraded at no charge. The neighborhood is very local, this is the only hotel in the area on the canal, yet it is not far from the river and all those things. I would go back in a minute.

Feb 26, 2009

What a great hotel! We loved everything about this, it has a swimming pool which is a rarity in Bangkok, and although within walking distance from Khao San, Grand Palace etc it was very quiet and peaceful. The breakfast is varied and really good, and the beds were so comfortable! Also very clean and the staff really helpful. Would definitely recommend.

the service was superb, the decor was stylish and comfortable. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The food was excellent - green curry was the best I have ever tasted. The canal was abit stinky but it would not stop me from staying at the Lamphu again. Fabulous value.

Beautiful and comfortable rooms

by Charlene Delos Santos from Australia

Jan 26, 2009

The room we had was great (it was the superior one I think). Very comfortable, and especially when we just got late into the night from our plane, it was nice to crash into a comfortable and clean bed!

The staff were quiet, but always willing to help out when asked.

The hotel is right next to a canal so when you first get there, it's a bit smelly, but once you're in the hotel you don't really notice.

It's about a 5min walk to Khao San Rd, so it's just right in terms of being away from all the nose if you want to get away from the busyness.

The taxi found it a bit hard to get to but eventually found it when he asked a local person.

The staff at Lamphu Tree was always willing to help. They allowed me to store my bags there and lounge by the pool even when I was just passing through Bangkok for the day and not staying at the hotel. The food is excellent as well.

by Nicole Schrempf from Germany

Jan 10, 2009

Very nice place, next to busy Khao-san Road. Nice rooms, a little bit to loud. Next to the pool it was smelling like a toilet, maybe because its near to the dirty klong. Food was good there and the staff at the reception was very helpful

Jan 9, 2009

After being a little hesitant about finding this hotel in the first place (it's off the bridge), I was warmly greeted with excellent staff who bent over backwards in providing great service, the food is reasonably priced, the pool is just perfect, you're centrally located to get anywhere in town, and the Rolling Bar just next to it has great food from 60THB if you miss dinner at the hotel! This place is a must!

Breakfast was amazing - fruit salad, toast and pancakes!
The room was great, the shower was the only slight downfall, it could have been slightly better.
Location is ok but not easy to find as it's off beside a part of the river. no road entrance.
Staff were very helpful.

Dec 24, 2008

It was in a quiet location, but very central to all the spots, i walked to them all. located away from other hotels, so felt very un-touristy. I couldn't have asked for better, was sad to leave and go to the other less quality accomodation. Could fault nothing, even the building outside was interesting

A great place, in a hidden location in Bangkok

Dec 17, 2008

For us, the Lamphu Tree House was ideal since it combined comfort, sleek wooden design, and very reasonable prices. It wasn't very easy for the driver to find (until I pulled out the map I got off their website). When we got there, the staff was very discreet, but always willing to help if asked. The rooms were comfy and clean and even had a small balcony. Our highlight was going on the rooftop every night and ordering drinks...Sometimes it was just two of us, and sometimes there were 15, but either way, the waiter still came and brought our drinks.

The only down point: Our particular room on the 4th floor had "open" ventilation in the bathroom, facing the hallway, so when noisy tourists came in laughing and talking even semi-loudly, we heard it. But, fortunately, this only happened a couple of times.

This new hotel is like an oasis in busy bangkok. Only five minutes walk from the parties of khoa san road, this hotel could not be better value for money. the staff couldn´t be more delightful or helpful, the rooms are the most comfortable i have ever stayed in in bangkok for this price, and the furnishings of the whole hotel are exquisite. I wold recommend this hotel to anyone!
