I was recently in Thailand with my wife and daughter. My wife and I decided a small "run-away" trip to the north of Thailand and we chose Chiang Mai. I had never been to Chiang Mai, so I didn't know what to expect regarding hotel quality and pricing. I searched the web, found Hotels2Thailand and started my search for hotels. I was recommended a couple of hotels by friends, but decided to let the Hotels2Thailand rating be the major factor when choosing the hotel. I narrowed the field down to Chiang Mai Plaza along with a couple of other hotels. After some thinking we decided that "Plaza" had to be a high quality. And the price for a spacious room was under 2,000 baht, so we maintained the "economy" aspect of the "run-away" trip. So, we booked the hotel and payment and confirmation was handled swiftly by Hotels2Thailand. **In the airport we changed plane and the pickup service was easily changed by Hotels2Thailand in a very professionel manner** When we got to the hotel and entered, we could immidiately see that we had booked a 5-star hotel for the price of a 3½-star hotel. A very good deal indeed! The decor, the atmosphere, the two people playing traditional thai music in traditional local clothes when entering to the reception - which by the way was huge - was quite an experience. In short, the first impression was fantastic and that impression lasted for the 4 days we were there. The room was a little old, but functional and not worn down. The view over the city and the mountain with Doi Suthep could make anyone smile when waking up. (we lived on the 10th floor) and even looking down at the swimming pool to see if it was full was useful. The staff was professional and very helpful. I can't complain about the service. It was very good and always served with a smile. The level of english was quite good, but as my wife is Thai and I speak the language as well, we didn't notice any linguistic problems. The restaurant was only tried for the HUGE!! breakfast buffet. They had all - from toast to Fried rice, soup and fresh fruit.
I must say that it was one of my most surprisingly positive stays in a hotel for years and I recommend anyone to check in to Chiang Mai Plaza.
Next time we are in Thailand, we are going to Chiang Mai again, and Chiang Mai Plaza will be our choice of hotel again - for sure!!
