Sukantara Cascade Resort Chiang Mai detail
Sukantara Resort lies on the sloping bank of a mountain stream in the verdant Chiangmai highland. Mountain water cascades over boulders in the stream, creating tiered waterfalls right below the Lanna-Balinese-style guest cottages, which are surrounded by breathtaking landscape.

Property:
Breathtaking, out-door scenery that one would only see on a post card.
Location:
Very far from the city. Once in town, it was quite hard to get a cab in the evening willing to take up back to the resort.
Room cleanliness:
Very poor. There were dead bugs in my bed the night I arrived that I has to dust off. The bedding was also moist, wet-feeling). There were also live ants in my friend's bed in the next-door room. He woke up the next morning with red itchy dots all over his body. In addition, there were food stains on the coffee table with a bunch of ants hovering on it. Also a bunch of ants on the area rug which was under the coffee table. Scratch marks and stains were visible on the floors and on some areas of the walls as well as spider webs on the drapes and in the bathroom closet (along with dust). The room was also a over scented as well.
Room decor:
A bit tacky and cheap looking. Does not have a warm, 'inviting' feeling.
Mini bar:
Very poor. This consisted of a serving tray with two snack items on it; One small pack of "peanuts with anchovy trail-mix" (very uncommon) and a pack of sunflower seeds. There was a small refrigerator in the room, with an ice tray compartment that would not freeze the water (after I left the try in there overnight).
Air conditioning:
Our room had remote-control air-conditioner, however there was no option for heating. It was very cold at night (to the point where the staff is wearing winter coats). Our room was freezing and the bathroom was the coldest. it felt as though you were outside.
Breakfast:
Limited options with three choices "American", "Thai" or "Continental".
It was very hard to order and communicate with our server (who happens to be the hotel's driver as well). The food was of poor quality consisting of cheap cereal, bread and tea. Very unexpected for a five-star hotel.
Pool:
One of the reasons why we booked here was because they had a pool available. Sadly there was no water in it when we arrived.
Staff:
The staff was friendly but it was a huge language barrier to communicate. Accept for one person, no one spoke English.
Overall this resort was very disappointing and is no where near five-star quality.
