Lanna Accent has gotten some pretty good reviews on the various websites and on the strength of these reviews my wife and I visited for four nights. It was our anniversary and I really wanted to make it special. We needn't have worried. Khun Ubon and her staff were simply unbelievably good. Indeed, if anything, the website reviews have not done her justice. Lanna Accent is an owner-occupied and run resort, and it makes all the difference.
Upon arrival my wife and I were greeted by the staff and our bags were quickly taken to our bungalow and we were handed drinks (Ubon's refreshing health juice). There is no checking in. Khun Ubon escorts you to your bungalow and sits and chats with you about what your intentions are for your visit. Whether you want to do active trekking tours, antique shopping, or just read a good book at the resort, Khun Ubon focuses in on this and makes suggestions for your itinerary.
She will also discuss what you what meals you intend to eat at the resort and then makes suggestions about possible menus. All the meals are prepared to order on the resort and the staff will happily make a run to the market to get something special for you if you require it. This is personal service at it's best.
This is a small resort, with only 3 private bungalows. They are set within a beautifully landscaped garden next to the Little Ping River. Each bungalow is furnished with rustic but very tasteful antique Thai furniture. Khun Ubon is knows her antiques and the resort's proximity to the Chiang Mai antique market probably doesn't hurt!
To be clear, Lanna Accent is not a mega-resort and does not offer a lot of on-grounds activities. If you want to experience Chiang Mai town, it is a little bit off the beaten track. This is probably not a great family resort. But if you want a romantic weekend (or week) away this is a great choice. I have lived in Asia for over ten years and been to every major tourist destination in the region. I can say without hesitation that Lanna Accent offers the best service of any hotel/resort that I have ever visited. In fact, maybe this is because Lanna Accent is not really a resort. It is Khun Ubon's home and she is a most gracious hostess.
