Black Mountain Golf Club Hua Hin is the 7th and newest golf course in Hua Hin and was transformed from lush jungle and pineapple plantations. The course is set in a valley, just next to the "Black Mountains", which are so named because of the large black rocks set into the mountains, providing a nice backdrop to many of the holes.

The golf course looks as natural as possible and maintains many of the original features of the site. The most important of these are the natural creeks that run throughout the course and the rocks that have been used as design features on many of the holes. Many of the original trees have been kept and many new trees have been planted to frame the holes.

Black Mountain is a test for the top golfers, but also very playable for the average golfer. All the holes provide the golfer with a safe route but for the more adventurous player there is a higher risk option with a potential greater reward. For example, the par 5, 6th peninsula green can be reached in 2 shots by aggressive long hitters, while casual golfers have a regulation path to the green almost requiring a 360 degree series of 3 shots. I suspect than many birdies can be had, if not an eagle now and then. Immediately following, the 7th hole, a par 4, provides two realistic ways to play the hole. Those who can carry their drives 230 yards or more over water will be rewarded with an easy chip shot to the green. Others, will need to 2 shots to skirt around the water, first left and then back right, making it almost impossible to par. Again, this hole is a good example of the risk reward situation on each of the holes at Black Mountain.

Black Mountain offers generous fairways for the shorter hitters that become narrower for the longer tee shots. The greens are large with many pin positions, with different degrees of difficulty, and the course is well protected by many white sand sculptured bunkers.

Seashore Paspalum grass was used for the tees, fairways and rough. This grass gives a wonderful playing surface and a beautiful emerald green color. Tifeagle bermuda grass was used for the greens and this expensive hybrid grass is the same turf as is used on the greens at other championship courses in the Thailand like Thai Country Club.

The view from the clubhouse is stunning, and gives a panoramic view of the whole golf course. The clubhouse facilities on offer include fine dining in the restaurant, a well stocked golf shop and luxurious locker rooms.

Black Mountain is one of Hua Hins best golf courses and is a joy to play.

Really enjoyed this new course-great to have a new course in the Hua Hin area. Fairways, greens and tees are beautiful and the food and service is great. I will be back soon.

Played on Sunday July 8 2007. Course was in good shape. Great fairways, and greens with some blind tee shots and approach shots. Greens were not that fast if you can read the mountain line you will be fine. Rough was tough to get out. Caddies were new and got little knowledge, don't blame it on them. Green fee 2000 baht was a little out of the pictures compared it to all golf courses in Hua Hin area (we can find a better green fee to play) and with 4000 fee later this year it would be even odd for me to play here again. Too bad!!!

great course, held up well despite rain the previous night.a tournament course that is enjoyable for all players.fairways are wide, greens are fast and large.excellent facility.caddie group must improve. my caddie did not speak any english at all. you must be in decent shape to walk this course as it is very hilly.very impressed. will be back.

First thing of note about this course is the road leading up to it. Bring your 4-wheel drive! Have no idea why a very wealthy owner like this guy didn't spend any money to pave a road to his 'championship' course prior to opening, but he didn't. Thus, you are forced to drive in on a washed out dirt road with plenty of big potholes. My friend got a flat tire on his car! The clubhouse and locker room facilities are all top-notch; food is pretty good, too. Turning to the course, the fairways are quite lush and consistent(perhaps grown up a bit to allow for play during this rainy season), while the greens were fantastic - some of the best in Thailand, as good as Amata or Alpine, if not better. Course design, especially the front 9, is fairly wide open, but lots of blind tee shots due with big elevation changes and doglegs. My group thought they had too many blind shots. We enjoyed the back 9 much more, with jaw-dropping views of the Khao Sam Roi Yod area in the distance on several holes. All in all, a pretty enjoyable course, that should only get better when the trees mature and the rest of the project fills in. Caddies were just OK, and we were told by the mgmt that getting staff is tough right now. Strangely, they are not offering any memberships unless you buy one of their properties. At the promotional price of 2,000 baht, this course is decent value for money...but at 4,000 baht (the price after October, or so they say), most people won't feel the same.

Played there this last weekend. Walked all 18 - a lot more hilly than the usual converted paddy field of course, but ok if a little slow.. Good condition, although some bunkers are washed out due to their newness. Greens are fast, but not excessively so - overall the course is very playable. The blind shots are more 'semi' blind and the free course planner helps out - no major hidden surprises. Some very new caddies, as can be expected, buggies are one to a golfer and can be driven on fairways (at present caddies only can drive, as they are ware of where is best to go to protect the course - later should be no problem, cart paths are only around tees and greens). Housing development is also ongoing, not too obstrusive though. Good marshals too - were able to get a 2 ball and a single thru our 4 ball easily and in a friendly manner - played on a saturday and it wasn't busy. The tee time spacing also should help, as long as they continue with it..... At the planned 4000bht (or maybe 5000 after rainy season!) this course will not be 'good value' obviously - the course itself is in no way 'worth' that much, but i imagine the idea is if you do choose to play there, you're paying for the peace and space to either play quickly without holdups or take your time and fit in with the ample spacing between groups. Will be interesting to see if it works out. Worth a visit now before the price increase, anyway!

Played on 1st Aug - 1000 baht green fee for this month is great value. Beautiful setting and an interesting, strategy course. Considering how new the course is, the condition is good and I'm sure will get even better. Friendly staff and I had a super caddie (number 14). I must get a few games in here before the green fee goes up to 4000 baht. Much as I enjoyed my day here - I won't pay that.

Played the course a couple of times now. Bunkers were damaged a few weeks ago but almost completely repaired now (13th July). Must remember that this is a new course and it has been hammered by heavy rain-considering this I think the course is in excellent condition and I'm sure it will only get better. Layout is fun and challenging- do not agree with the comment that it is too easy. I can imagine it with the rough up, the pins tucked and fast and playing off the back tees. I am sure pro's will not murder it. I have played all the courses in the Hua Hin area and I can assure you the condition here outshines the others by far. Just wish there were memberships for sale because I would be first in the queue. The caddies are mixed. There are some good ones so remember their numbers.

I played on 12th August. Course condition is good. They offer valuable green fee, only 1,000 baht for special promotion on August. If caddy will be more improved, every things are OK.

just played on 8th Jul 07: what a challenge layout, lots of blind shot, luckily that the course gave yardage book (complementary within green-fee price), only 10th green that under repairing the rest are in good condition & very difficult to read the line, anyhow, green-fee price is a bit expensive (promotion rate is 2,000) if compare with nearby golf courses. BTW, no any drinking water in the locker!

Very challening, but fair. Although the course is hilly, it is not needed to take a buggy. Strokesavers are handed out at entrance. The greens are excellent. Very fast !! Negative : the road to reach BM is still in bad condition, and play was too slow. Of all the courses I played in Hua Hin area, this was my favourite.

Played on Dec-23rd. Fairways and greens are in good condition. Greens are very undulating. 3 puts is not unusual for my HC of 18. Our caddies are very good, helpfull and knowledgable with the course, with decent English too. Access road to the course is still in not a good condition. Staff in bag-drop and Men's locker reception desk cannot speak English, even for very basic ones. Too bad for a nice course like this. When we made a booking, it was advise that we got a promotion rate but had to instead pay full walk-in rate when checked in. Quite a dissapointment. Not for the money but it's annoying. (Could it be because of language barrier.??) Have played in several other courses in Hua Hin area, found Palm Hills and Springfield are overall better that this one.

The course was OK, but they are simple Layout, Caddy still no skill, but I think the price so high while I wait for each hole too long, not worth, may be will not come again

Playing there on weekdays in early August 2007, we had no problem whatsoever with the flow. Keep fit to walk on this course...which should be fun!! Splendid view, fairways, punishing rough, and especially the devilish greens. Though I had more than my share of three putts, that didn't prevent me from having fun. Somehow playing this course reminds of Spring City, Kunming. Congratulations to the management, especially on the improving quality of staff! Too bad the regular prices will prevent many golf enthusiasts from this privilege. How about reduced fees while the noisy construction of homes is ongoing? I agree something should be done to the road leading to your clubhouse.
