Wow, I don't even know where to start! We loved this resort and visiting Ko Phangan, it was amazing. We considered staying at the Prestige and the Green Dolphin which were next door, but I really have no idea what you got for the extra 60$ a night. After exploring the other resorts on the same beach we definitely felt we made the right choice in picking Salad Beach Resort.

This resort hit all the basics so I'll go over those first. The staff was SO friendly and very helpful, the grounds were beautiful and lush, and the room was a good size and very clean. Definitely a great value for the money.

I'll start off with the one con which is really a pro if you like exploring - there isn't much of a beach. At high tide it's pretty much lost and then at low tide it's just a sliver. There is a large deck that overlooks the cove though, and the waves crash right below you. Making up for the beach, the cove is fantastic for floating and relaxing. The water is refreshing and clear, and there was snorkeling as well.

We spent a lot of time exploring other beaches along the coast and I would definitely recommend this - a scooter sets you back only 5$ a day! There is a nice beach about 5 minutes away called Mae Hat where you'll find lots of sand, restaurants, massage huts, and the tiny island of Koh Mae which you can walk to across a sand bar.

Our bungalow was perfect - just like the pics on the site and was the best one on the property. It had a wrap around porch with chairs and a lounger, and then sliding doors and windows on 2 sides that made it just like being outside when they were open, so relaxing. You should ask for the corner ocean view bungalow if they have it available, though the pool view was almost as nice. The pool is beautiful and in the middle of a lush garden.

The grounds were amazing, so green and lush and peaceful. There were winding paths and tons of vegetation, a mini oasis. You know how some resorts can be too resorty? Not this one, it was the perfect reflection of the island and Thai culture.

The restaurant was great - yummy (and Free!) breakfast buffet with made to order pancakes and omelets, fruit, yogurt, cereal, etc. Dinner was also wonderful - FRESH fish and authentic Thai, couldn't beat it. If you decide to try the western cuisine (and this goes for any restaurant), do know that it's more or an interpretation than "like home".

The resort is right next to an area with convenience stores, restaurants, massage huts, tours, etc. Its def worth your while to stock up on beer and wine from here b/c ordering from the restaurant is a lot pricier for the same stuff (there is a fridge in your room). Though we didn't go to the Full Moon Party in Hat Rin you can easily catch a taxi from this area as well.

For those worried about the water, they keep you FULLY stocked while you are there with bottled water and the restaurant (all of them, for that matter) always serve you this whether you remember to ask for it or not.

I would go back to the island and stay at this resort without a doubt! Though it was in the northwest corner, because the island isn't very large you can get anywhere you want via scooter with ease. The views of the coastline and the beauty of the interior of the island make this something you shouldn't miss!

Isolated Destination

Unless you are hoping to get away from crowds and the hassles of beaches filled with tourists, Salad Beach Resort will only offer quiet nights and day activities outside the resort (extra charge). The hotel itself is a beautiful place, the downside is that it is located in one of the most remote beaches in Koh Phangan.
