Choose the new pool access room
by jtsingapore from Singapore
We booked the pool access room which is a new devt of the property - great value and excellent design for family with kids to jump into the pool all day. Also, as it was a new wing still in its final touches of completion, we had the whole landscaped pool to ourselves while most of the other villa/deluxe room hotel patrons had to share the main pool. Our room had a jacuzzi bathtub (with cheesy flashing lights), spacious king bed and day bed and the usual 5 star amenities like bathrob/slippers/earbuds/umbrella/safe.
Further upsides: accessible convenience store opposite to stock up your bar and amenities, free wifi access throughout hotel, free mountain bikes and clean/newish non-motorized sports.
Downsides: hard bed, limited tv selection with no movie channels, mediocre breakfast and quality of room service food. Khao Lak town has pathetic shopping and ambience, and tour itenaries are generally expensive for what you get.
There are new devts building around La Flora which will make the area more bustling and interesting.
Tip: For tours, go to the orange building opposite and bargain nicely rather than book from the hotel. Our 3.5 year old son was not charged whereas the hotel would have. However, in the end, although we enjoyed our tour, we still felt paying S$130 per adult for elephant trekking and canoeing plus lunch in a private car expensive for Thailand.
And bring lotsa cash as most places don´t have credit card facilities.
Recommended stay period: 4 days, 3 nights.
Stay at La Flora
by Mr Chris Whiddon from London, UK
Great location however we booked a seaview villa but this was not available and were put in a poolside villa which was great, mainly as this was a new wing of the hotel with few guests. Breakfast is very poor for a 5* hotel and drinks ore expensive than the more expensive hotel, the Mukadara resort next door.
