Noisy but if you've got your earplugs, not bad.

by Kelly Risling from Vancouver, Canada

May 27, 2009

The hotel is situated just off the main entertainment drag Bangla Road and is across the street from the beach. We paid 1300 baht a night which I felt was high given the noise from the entertainment district. We didn't shop around as we has just arrived and didn't want to wander after having spent 15 hrs traveling.

The rooms themselves were decent, a nice size with a/c, a fridge, in room safe, tv and a hot shower. Wifi is available but for a charge. There is also a pool which could use some serious clean up and maintenance but it is usable. Beds were a bit hard but ok. The overall condition of the hotel is that is appears a bit dated and run down but still serviceable. It could use a bit of work. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was provided in the am.

Soo...not great but not bad. If they drop the price to make it commensurate with the facility I think they would pull in more business.

Good Location

by ken rowan from UK

Dec 11, 2008

I stayed at the Tropica from 20 Nov - 06 Dec 2008 and I found the hotel not bad for the money, there are a few problems with the Hotel itself, no tea or coffee making facilities in the room and no free water. The Hotel installed a cover charge of 500baht for a lady guest each time, which I thought a bit mean as I paid for a double room, so beware if you want to be entertained. The pool area needs a lot of work doing to it and the pool furniture could also do with replacing. The breakfast I thouhgt was good (thats if I was up in time)eggs to order and nice crispy bacon and one of the best coffee's I have had in Patong. The staff are very good and try and help as much as possible. The rooms are a bit dark and you need the lights on at all time, but hey you only sleep and play there when you finaly get in. The bathroom is a wet room, but I thought that to be ok and there was plenty of hot shower water, but the sink basin was water was always cold. Overall, a good budget hotel next to all the facilities of the beach and Bangla Road.

Great hotel BUT

by David from New Zealand

May 3, 2008

I have stayed in this hotel a few times and always thought it was great value for money.
But in my last stay of 10 days with my girlfriend, a stool in the room broke while I was sitting on it. The replaced it with no issue until checkout. Then they wanted 1500 baht to replace stool. after discussing this they decided I could pay less but had to pay as it was hotel policy. they even said i would not be allowed to leave until I paid. I wont be returning to this hotel

Good location but HARD BEDS

by Mr Colin Moyle from Australia

Nov 6, 2007

I have stayed here many times ( 7 in the last 3 years) but I´m tired of the hard beds, they give you pressure sores and now to top it off as of the 1st of Nov 2007 they have introduced a "joiner" fee of 500baht. This is to be a permanent fee not just for the high season. So, for me, I wont be staying there again.

A natural experience in bustling Patong

by Andre Niehoff from Malaysia

Oct 10, 2007

It´s a great place to be if you want to be in the night life centre of Phuket. If you are looking for a quiet place you better go somewhere else. The comfort of the beds can be compared to sleeping on concrete... :-)
But it is a great alsmost jungle-like resort at a few steps from the beach - what else does one need.

Would stay here again

by Jessica Reeves from Singapore

Aug 10, 2007

The location was very handy, the hotel has beautiful gardens and pool and the room was very clean and comfortable. Noise could be an issue - request a quiet room and bring earplugs - but for the price (including breakfast, a bonus) and location, it was a great place to stay.

Great location but bring your earplugs

by Neil Larkins from Australia

Jul 30, 2007

Room was clean and confortable, balcony good place to read and relax. Bathroom very basic and may not suit all women. Pool is very good and only a short walk over to the beach. Right in the middle of all the action and entertainment and easy to get around but also means noise late into the night but earplugs work. Would come back.

Great location for party animals

by Jeevaka Abeyasinghe from Australia

Jul 25, 2007

I loved the location and the extra privacy afforded by the standalone bungalow setup. Can be a bit noisy due to proximity to Bangla road but shouldn´t b a concern if get home at 4.30am as we regularly were! Need to be aware of security as sometimes windows are left unlocked! Overall I loved it, really good value for money.

A natural experience in bustling Patong

by Andre Niehoff from Malaysia

Jun 18, 2007

The hotel/resort is great - good location and convenient/accessible. Good Food, great staff. The only negative thing was the extreme noise from the pubs at Bangla Road - maybe he hotel should let people know that the rooms next to the Bangle Road experience lots of noise at night till 3 am. The other side of the resort is moew quiet. But then again - considering the price/value - it is really worth your money

Can´t beat Tropica Bungalow

by Richard White from United Kingdom

Jun 9, 2007

The staff were really friendly and helpful, the rooms were great, and the pool is perfect if you don´t like the beach.A bit of noise from Bangla Road if you get a room on that side of the resort....but the gardens etc. are a hidden Oasis, without doubt the best hotel I have had in 7 or 8 trips to Patong !!!!!!

Location, location, location!

by Phillip Evans from UK

Dec 21, 2006

Great location, at the end of Bangla Road near the beach, if you want to party this is the place to be! If you want early nights then the noise from Bangla is huge untill 3.30 am! The htel itself is a little run down but not too bad, There is not supposed to be an extra charge for unregistered guests at this hotel but I saw a guest charged for bringing a girl back! Food excellent but a bit expensive, I would stay here again but not for 1600 Baht, I think 1200 THB would be a more realistic price!

by Leroy from Australia

Dec 6, 2006

If you´re looking for a place to stay that´s close to the action with a little bit of class then look no further. Right across the road from the beach and 50 metres to all the Bangla Road craziness. A good portion of the guests in this hotel are euro sex pests so I would not recommend couples staying here.

Great location, laid back

by Minh Dang from Santa Clara, California

Dec 5, 2006

I´ve been staying here for the last 5 years (every time I visit Phuket). The atmosphere is relaxed, and the staff is friendly. It´s right across the street from the beach and right next to Bangla Road so the it´s easy to find, and in the cneter of most activities. I prefer the jungle-like bunglalow setting over lounge-by-the-pool resort hotels so for me, this is a better deal. The restaurant is OK but it does have one of the best Thom Kha Gai in Phuket. Definitely a thumbs up from me.

The "Tropica" was great. Centrally located, but still quiet. The rooms were clean and comfy, the garden and pool areas shady and well maintained. I have never beaten the "Tropica" for value for money in Thailand!

Just ONE problem Unfortunately

by Sharon Watters from Australia

Nov 17, 2006

Tropica Bungalow is really nice and one of the original hotels at Patong beach. Nice surrounds, lots of tropical vegetation, layout is great.

The one problem is the noise that comes from the street all through the night, or until about 3 or 4 am in the morning. It is near the main nightlife street and the pounding music kept me awake. Luckily I had on hand some silicone ear plugs, this saved the day for me, however, my partner does not like to use these earplugs...somehow, he managed to get to sleep.

It is a shame because all else is nice at Tropica Bungalow. If you want to stay there and are a light sleeper, just get some earplugs in case.

Excellence Loaction but the rooms is filled with mosquitoessssssss.

by Goh Bee Hock from Singapore

Nov 14, 2006

Find extremely hard to fall asleep as i was bothered by the mozzies. Also the toilet is filled with roaches and imagine you were having shower and the mozzies starts attacking you. Shower pipe condition also very bad and very lousy hot water facility. Swimming pools are filled with dried leaves and looks old.

Perfect location for nightlife and beach

by Chuck from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada

Nov 12, 2006

I loved the location. 4 minute walk from Soi Bangla where the nightlife is and right accross from the beach. Also, the restaurant offers discounts for customers. Stayed for 48 nights, wish it was more.

Too noisy for non party goers

by Mads Buemann from Denmark

I liked the resturant. But the noise from the discoteks (which was hammering music from 16-06) was too much. Beach was just in a few mins walk

Good location but that´s all

by Bao Phi from USA

Nov 7, 2006

If you like partying and don´t mind where you sleep, then this hotel is perfect for you. Very central to all bars and clubs in Patong, this hotel offers you a short, drunk walk home. But the amenities are sorely lacking in the rooms. It did have a nice porch or balcony for you to chill/relax before you hit the clubs.

5.6

excellent location, clean rooms and no joiner fee.

by Colin Moyle from Highett, Victoria, AUSTRALIA

Nov 5, 2006

This place is THE best value hotel in the low season (I´ve been coming to Phuket for over 20years).Smack bang in the middle of Patong and directly opposite the beach. For Couples with children and other early risers ask for rooms 115 to 120 or rooms 215 to 220 these are the quietest rooms and you should have no problem sleeping over the din from Bangla Rd. Rooms have firm double beds with fan,air-con,hot/cold water, safety deposit box, sat tv, minibar and IDD telephone.Internet is available at reception. Full a-la-carte breakfast is include in the price. Lots of lush tropical plants around (complete with 3 little grey squirrels)and a newly renovated swimming pool. Given its location you can walk around everywhere without having to catch tuk-tuks, especially at night. Best value LOW season hotel!!

Its just beside Patong beach and right next to Bangla street where all the night life activities are. If you are looking for suntanning at the beach and drinks at the pubs without doing as much as lifting your leg, then Tropica is the place for you.

Perfectly located and comfy rooms

by Katrin Gischler from Kassel, Germany

Aug 7, 2006

We had a double room on the second floor and found a comfortable room which was nicely furnished and clean. We got new beach towels every day. The hotel is infront of the beach, you just need to cross the street. The breakfast was rich and the food (Thai and European) in the restaurant is very recommendable, too.
I would stay there again. There is no better choice for the value of money!

8.4

cozy inexpensive and amazing location

by Zach Hammerich from Chicago

Jul 10, 2006

Tropica Bungalow was a great hotel to stay in. It is located just across the street from the beach, and also right next to all the entertainment. At first we were worried that the noise would be unbearable but the rooms surprisingly blocked out a lot of noise. The rooms were nicely done, but somewhat dark. The bathroom was large and nice. The restaurant served great food and even offered us a discount. The t.v. had a variety of channels and the bed was comfortable. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

9.2

Right in the middle of it all !!!!!!

by Grant RICHARDSON from Western Australia

Jul 9, 2006

Close to Soi Bangla. A bit noisy at night but you are only 15m. straight line from Bangla which understandably is a noisy part of town.
Only down side to Tropica Bungalows is that the TV in the room had been ´fixed´ so that the ´line in´ inputs on it did not function. In Singapore I would plug my little MP3 player into the TV so I could listen through the TV´s speaker without the need for my headphones. I don´t see why this funvtion has been deliberately ´disabled´. It works with hotels in Japan and Singapore so I don´t see why Tropica would disallow it......
Apart from that little annoyance - top place !!!

Wanna be close to the action and the beach???

by jarrad marshall from Sydney, Australia

Jul 6, 2006

For a single guy it was really convinient, your right next to bangla rd (2mins walk) and the same time to the beach. The staff were really nice especially the cleaners. The room did smell a bit musty if all the doors and windows were closed but this was solved by having them open when you were there (pretty obvious). The restaurant is nice, brand new after the tsunami and the breakfast is adequate, dont expect a five star meal when your staying in a three star hotel. I paid 700 baht per night (low season) incl breakfast thats really good value for the location. The beds are rock hard, but so was every other bed in thailand I slept on so don´t let that phase you. If you do stay there try and get the side thats not on Bangla rd side as it can get a bit rowdy from 2pm onwards. But once your in the room you really can´t hear whats going on outside and so you shouldn´t, you should be too stuffed from all the partying and drinking cheap alcohol thats going on.
Overall a really nice hotel I would definatly stay there again. Two thumbs up :)

by Murjan Ali from Oakland, California USA

Jun 28, 2006

I first here about this hotel from a co worker who live in Phuket. He suggest I stay there. The hotel is located literally in central Patong Beach. It is the first hotel off of Bangla rd. It is near all of patong Nightlife and across the street from the beach. It is a very clean hotel, as I often woak up late, I was able to have the staff clean my room up on demand until 3pm that day which was great. I would recommend this hotel to any and everyone who wants to be in the center of Patong beach.

Excellent location with tropical garden

by Robert from Austria

May 27, 2006

Wonderful tropical garden with a hidden swimming pool 8 could be a little larger). Across the street there is the beach and 3 minutes to walk there is Bangalore Road. Also 1 minute to go, there is a supermarket to fill up the frigde.
Try to get Bungalows with number 24 to 34 - they are quiet - others could be noisy. In May I paid 1200 Bht - about 24€ for a bungalow for my self incl. good braekfast. If you take a girlfriend with you, you wouldn´t be charged extra. The girl has to show her ID-Card to the security for beeing safe. In another hotel I paid 800 Bht extra without breakfast.
There is also a private safe in your room, aircondition, fan, extra large bed and frigde.
Really wonderful place to stay, although you are in the center of Patong bach.

Centre of Patong, near to Beach

by Allan from UK

May 7, 2006

Overall: value for money budget bungalows/rooms.
Positives:
Central Patong, close to Beach.
Lots of greenery and therefore shade, especially around the pool.
In Room electronic safe.
Good size TV with various international channels.
Negatives:
Very poor lighting in room and balcony, therefore very difficult for reading at night.
Music noise from Bangla Road (no problem for party types but not recommended for early to bed types).
Restaurant neither here nor there (needs at least one strong visible theme e.g. Seafood, Steak Grill, Live Music etc).

Super freindly staff, great food, fabulous location, the only negitive I can come up with is I could´nt get a iron sent to my room. Add a few more channels to the TV and one or two irons and got it made. Reguardless, I plan to stay there next year and have told all my freinds of the Tropica!
