Beautiful resort and beach

by Yolande from Sydney, Australia

I loved the Katathani. It's a beautiful resort on a gorgeous beach. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Nothing was a problem. I stayed at the resort for my sisters wedding and all the staff involved in organizing it were fantastic.
One piece of advice- if you are looking at the cheaper rooms, don't bother upgrading to the deluxe room. The superior Bhuri wing rooms are beautiful. Much nicer than the deluxe, with a better view and location.

Beautiful presentation!

I was disappointed in my room, I had understood that all the rooms where on the beach side of the road and when I was located across the road I was not happy. Also the rooms themselves where quite small, however the grounds where very beautiful and spacious! It was a nice hotel but not what I had hoped for!

Buri Wing is beautifully located around the pool

The scenery in the Buri Wing is beautiful. The rooms are romantic, with a glasswalled shower and fountain in the room.
The area around the hotel is very poor, with not much to do in the evening, but you can easily walk or take a taxi to one of the other more lively beaches for shopping and restaurants.

Jul 06 - Class

Over all the hotel is a touch of class. Definitley remote from the hurky burly of Patong, this we were happy about. Karon is closer and still with life. The hotel is (by Thai prices) pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. We had a cheapo room and was excellent. Pools excellent, beach very good. Wifi pricey and unsecured, 3 viruses came from the hotel network, I think hotel tracking cookies? Prefer to use paypal rather than send card info overnetwork. We will return in future, a week of relaxation at Katathani is already nice to look forward to. This hotel booking service I found to be very good.

Has Potential

Here´s what we liked: We stayed in a Master Sweet which was as lovely as we pictured.´Nice fresh water pools and clean beach was our view, which we enjoyed daily. The place could be a 4 plus star, but the food is barely palatable as I found myself extreemly uncomfortable from eating the pool side food. And speaking of uncomfortable, my girlfriend and I are still in Chiropractic care from the bed we slept on. So, as beautiful as the setting and surroundings are, they´re tough to enjoy when your suffering from food poisoning and a twisted rib in your back. It´s tough to be sure of what makes you sick after four days have passed, but the staff doctor assured me it wasn´t from the nasty tuna sandwich they served me- The one I couldn´t finish even though I´d been eating everything in Bangkok for days with-out incident. If this isn´t enough to dis-wade, another most disconcerning thing is the reverberation up and down the beach from the jack-hammering next door where construction is taking place. It took us days to adjust to this admist the serene setting. We settled in our fist day on the beach, looked at each other as if in a corona commercial, smiled and the BAM......BAM, BAM , BAM..bambambambambambambam...whatthe ?*^%*^%#%#. We asked to be moved, which took management a day to decide as others were complaining too. We decided on staying (as the room really was a lovely setting) and to just walk to the farthest end of the beach) So in review, since I´ve been asked twice now to evaluate my stay, I´d have to say, once the construction is complete from next door in two years, if they replace the cooks and the beds, we´d consider staying at the Katathani again, sure.

Four stars on a budget.

by Robert Laughlin from Chico, California

If this place were in Hawaii, it would cost $500 a night (at least) instead of $104. Sure there are cheaper places to stay in Thailand, but if you don´t mind a minor splurge, you´ll be rewarded with a first rate place.

Very minor irritations include lack of enough elevators, the elevator they had was dreary, Thai buffet dinner was a little over priced and of inconsistent quality (although the free breakfast was nice), the in room internet service left unsightly wires and equipment around plus was kind of pricey, and most bizarre of all, the Muzak in the lobby played only one song, over and over and over, 24 hours a day. And the reception staff didn´t even notice.

But I would stay here again in an instant.
