Water is not consistently hot...
We booked our room through AirAsia. The moment we arrived, we were greeted with the very friendly receptionists & the very eager bellboy who grabbed our bags the moment we stepped out of the airport limo. Talk about first impression!
The lobby was tastefully furnished & the swimming pool was so inviting that we wanted to jump in right away. It wasn’t one of those ordinary blue-tiled pools. It was more of a Balinese style one with the spa area right smack in the middle.
One of the receptionists led us to our room & boy, was I impressed. Having paid only 1500 baht a night, I expected a very simple room. But it was amazing!
The room was really clean & they provided a safe, umbrellas, slippers, robes & towels. They had containers filled with ample shower foam, shampoo & conditioner. There was also soap at the shower area.
The mini bar was fully-stocked (but you have to pay to drink, of course) & there were two complimentary mineral water bottles. They even had a ‘laundry bag’ which you can transfer into a knapsack & bring to the beach.
But this wasn’t the end of it. I brought my laptop along with me just to finish off some work & guess what? They had complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access in the room! I was grinning from ear-to-ear when the receptionist handed me the username & password which could be used for our whole stay. I wanted to hug her there & then!
But the experience that we could never forget was when my friend accidentally left her LG handphone in front of the massage parlor near the lobby. We were waiting for the tour agent to pick us up & the moment the van arrived, my friend stood up & grabbed my bag, leaving behind her black pouch that contained her handphone.
It was only halfway through the journey that my friend noticed she’d left the pouch. We got really scared & as soon as we arrived at the jetty, the van driver, Jud, helped us made a phone call to the hotel.
It took some time for the receptionist to understand us & with the amount of people passing the parlor, we thought it would’ve already been stolen, for sure. We were devastated.
I was thinking, there was no way we could go to Phi Phi Islands in this state & asked if we could be driven back to the hotel. The lady in charged of Phuket Siam Seacanoe was kind enough to let us postpone our trip to the next day instead & asked Jud to drive us back with a small fee.
The moment we arrived back at the hotel, my friend ran to the massage parlor & asked them if they’d seen her pouch. To her surprise, they said, “Hotel” & when my friend ran to the lobby, the receptionist quickly handed her the black pouch with the handphone in it. Imagine the amount of relief we had! We can never thank them enough.
The breakfast was more than satisfactory with local & western cuisine. They had fried rice, mixed vegetables, pancakes, bacon, potato salad, toast, cereal, fruit etc. They even had an egg station.
There was a 7-eleven right around the corner with an ATM machine & the whole area was surrounded with shops, massage parlors, restaurants, pubs & tour agents. If you want to go for a tour, you can seek assistance from Aod. His tour agency’s right next to the hotel. He was so helpful & we managed to get a good bargain; a speed boat tour of Phi Phi for 1200 baht each.
& don’t forget to also frequent the massage parlor right in front of the hotel. I don’t quite remember the name. I think it’s “Kata Rock”.
My friend wanted to braid her hair but the lady advised her not to as her hair was silky straight & it would be difficult to get it back to original. We’ve never met a masseuse who’s this honest!
We thought she’d be going all out to extort money from us naïve tourists. At the end, my friend took her advice & didn’t braid her hair.
She went for the 1-hour full body aroma massage instead plus the foot scrub. It only cost her 550 baht which was pretty cheap considering the fact that it could easily cost thrice as much back home. My friend said it was the best massage she’s ever received & gave the masseuse a handsome tip.
The only downside is that it’s not beach-front. It’s Kata & the nightlife isn’t as exciting at Patong (we wanted to avoid the noise anyway). But hey, with the price we paid, we had nothing to complain. Certainly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Phuket.
*Airport transfer alert*
Just a note, though. Airport transfer was the worst experience we had in Phuket. The moment we arrived, we took the liberty to take the airport ‘limo’ which cost us 750 baht (many people warned us not to take the taxis lurking outside the terminal as they’ll take full advantage of you).
They were very systematic. They assigned you a limo number to pick you up right outside the arrival hall. I was thinking, phew.. we did well with the airport transfer.
As it turned out, instead of driving us straight to the hotel, the so-called ‘limo’ driver brought us to a tour agency & claimed he had to ‘sign in’. He made us spend a useless half-an-hour listening to some tour agents who were obviously trying to rip us off our money, claiming that they were a ‘government company’ & forcing to take a package for 1800 baht which would only cost us 1200 baht if we were to look around the Kata area.
We said ‘no’ over & over again & even when I showed them the irritated look on my face, they refused to give in, persuading us to show how much money we had. I got so fed up, got up & walked outside without another word.
A few minutes later, the ‘limo’ driver emerged & without any sorry look on his face, drove us to the hotel. I seriously think the government should do something about these drivers who obviously get commission out of these so-called ‘government company’.
